Improving my Handwriting

When I first laid a fountain pen to paper two things became obvious, firstly, I was in love and, secondly, years of using a keyboard had really taken its toll on my ability to form legible letters.

One of the first places I ran to was the penmanship section of FPN and that is where I discovered the wonderful resource that is iampeth. iampeth is the website for the International Association of Master Penman, Engrossers, and Teachers of Handwriting and offers great tips and tricks for handwriting.

I have no delusions of becoming a master Calligrapher but I want to develop a nice smooth, round hand. While reading over the lessons section of the site I settled on working through the Palmer Method of Business Writing. I found that the Palmer method offered a nice script that would not be to complex or flowery for everyday writing.

The Palmer book focuses on forming muscle memory and familiarity through repetition. The exercises are simple enough but require focus and concentration to get comfortable with. My hand writing is still not at a level that I want but it is much better than it was and even my school teacher wife has noticed a marked improvement.

I will keep you posted on my progress.
